In 2003 the Dornbirn Nativity Scene Museum Foundation settled into its cozy home in a 145-year-old former horse stables. The 400 square meter exhibit area is the result of caring and elaborate renovations by members of the Dornbirn Nativity Scene Foundation (in over 4,000 hours of voluntary work).
The impressive collection of more than 140 complete nativity crib scenes, from four continents, present nativity mangers and figures in a variety of interpretations of the Holy Night. Among the highlights is a 16 square meter large Easter Passion scene with more than 90 figures, which tells the story of Christ’s suffering and crucifixion. There is also a 23-meter-long “Jahreskrippe”, with 14 stations from the life of the Holy Family; or the so-called “Spiegelkrippen”, which use a skillful ordering of mirrors to simulate enhanced spatial depth.
