The Most Important Information at a Glance:
- Public transport mobility: Use buses and trains throughout Vorarlberg, including the border stations.
- From the first night: As an overnight guest in an accommodation in a participating municipality, you are entitled to the Guest Card for Explorers. It is valid for the entire duration of your stay.
- Conscious Discovery: By using public transportation, you contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions and easing traffic congestion.
How to Obtain Your Guest Card for Explorers:
As a guest, you will receive your guest card either digitally or in analog format.
- Digital on Your Smartphone:
With the digital version, you will automatically receive an email with a link to the "ROMI" web app approximately two weeks before your arrival. After registering, you can activate your digital guest card there, which will be displayed as a QR code and is valid for immediate use on buses and trains—even on your arrival day. You can also use your guest card offline by saving the "ROMI" web app, which contains the guest card, on your smartphone.
- Paper Card
If you do not own a smartphone or prefer not to use the digital solution, you will receive your guest card as a printed version on a special card (a blank card template) directly at your accommodation. Please note that a printout on regular paper will not be accepted.
From 1 May 2025, accommodation providers in the participating municipalities will enable their overnight guests to use buses and trains throughout Vorarlberg with the Guest Card for Explorers.

Area of Validity
The Guest Card for Explorers is valid on all lines of the Verkehrsverbund Vorarlberg VVV (Vorarlberg Transport Association), including the border stations in Tyrol (St. Anton), Germany (Lindau), and Switzerland (Buchs, St. Margrethen). Fee-based hiking and shuttle buses are excluded. Please see the map below.
Valid Ticket
You do not need to purchase a bus or train ticket. The Guest Card for Explorers, including the VVV logo, serves as your ticket for bus & train. You will receive the Guest Card from your host as soon as the digital guest registration has been completed. Each person requires their own Guest Card as a personal mobility ticket.

The aim is to shift tourist mobility from private motor vehicles to public transport and to provide overnight guests with easy access to public transport in Vorarlberg. This is intended to encourage the use of public transport, reduce CO₂ emissions, decrease traffic congestion, and make better use of the existing public transport network—thus contributing to the sustainable development of the region.

The Guest Card for Explorers will be provided to eligible overnight guests either digitally or physically through their accommodation providers.
Currently, there is no dedicated mobile app. Instead, the digital vacation companion "ROMI" is available as a web app. Approximately two weeks before your arrival, you will receive an email with a link to "ROMI." After registering, you can activate your digital guest card, which is displayed as a QR code and valid for use on buses and trains. You can also use your guest card offline by saving the "ROMI" web app on your smartphone.

Hosts and accommodation providers automatically issue the Guest Card to guests who are entitled to it. This Guest Card serves as a mobility ticket for travel by bus & train throughout Vorarlberg.
The Bodensee-Vorarlberg Leisure Card is an additional admission card for over 50 attractions—museums, cable cars, pools, ice rinks, and many more—and grants discounts at bonus partners.
- I want to rent (e-)bikes, (e-)scooters, or a rental car, or use private bus companies during my stay. Is the Guest Card for Explorers valid for these alternative means of transport?
